2003 STRATHCONA CUP
SCOTTISH TOUR OF CANADA
The Canadian Curling Association (CCA) has invited the Royal Caledonia Curling club of Scotland (RCCC) to assemble a Men’s Curling Tour of Canada in January 2003 to compete for the Strathcona Cup, on of the oldest curling competitions in existence. The Scots have accepted this invitation and will be touring Canada from January 8th to January 31st.
This also marks the 100th anniversary of the first visit of Scottish curlers to North America.
The
competition is for the Strathcona Cup, donated by Lord Strathcona in 1909. The
winner of the Cup is the country scoring the most points during the month long
tour. The competition is usually held at five year intervals alternating between
Scotland and Canada. The last Scottish Tour of Canada occurred in 1993 and the
most recent Canadian Tour of Scotland took place in 1998. Three
Unionville teams and one from the Richmond Hill Curling Club will be hosting
four of the touring Scottish teams at the Unionville
Curling Club
on Monday January 27th.
