Notice: Photos from the "Plant Heart" Operation October 30, 2004

On Saturday October 30th the Unionville Curling Club ice plant underwent emergency surgery to replace vital arteries leading from the heart of the plant to the rest of the ice body.

The Surgical Team consisted of Head Surgeon Jim Kinzinger and a crack team of imported heart specialist along with two shifts of interns, most who were seeing the inside and under belly of patient
for the first time.  These were supported by a many other members who provide fluids and nutrition for the teams of workers.

The Procedure lasted over 10 hrs and consisted of the following:
 1) Removing the vital fluids (brine) from the body,
2) Exposing, thawing and removing the damaged arteries,
3) Preparing and grafting new arteries,
4) Restoring the extracted vital fluids and finally
5) Restoring the heart to working order.

Current Status: The prognosis is good, the patient is currently stable,
the surgeons are taking a wait and see attitude.
A report on the patients health will be announced shortly.

Thanks to all members of all sections who volunteered
and a special thanks to our Club Manager Craig Harvey for coordinating the event
and our Ice Technician Jim Kinzinger for his leadership to get this done successfully.
